Regulation Appointment Preparation

Regulation Appointment Preparation

Here are some things to consider when you are going to have your harp regulated:

  1. String condition: Look at the harp strings closely. Where the discs or levers touch the strings, the strings often become worn; nylon strings can be grooved. When strings are worn, frayed or dirty change them about two to three weeks before the regulation. In any event the strings in the upper three octaves should be changed if they are more than two years old.

noteAged strings can become "false", a condition where the string cannot vibrate in tune properly thus leading to bad sound. Often, the idea that the harp needs regulation may come from the string itself, not the regulation settings. Regulation or control of a false string is impossible. Nylon strings quite often become grooved where the discs engage them.
Important: Bring your extra strings to the appointment.
  2. Price and Payment: Payment is required at time of service. It may be made by cash or check payable to Harp Doc LLC. Complete Pricing List
  3. Wire Strings: The regulator can replace your wire strings during the regulation process. There is an additional fee for wire strings. Please make it known when requesting service.
  4. Restringing: If you would like your harp completely restrung, the instrument will need to be left with regulator for at least three days. Complete Pricing List
  5. Tuning: Please see that the harp is holding tune before the regulation appointment. It is helpful to tune the harp the day of the appointment.
  6. Appointment Time and Place: We like to have the harp for three hours to do the regulation work. It is possible to drop your harp off the day before the actual appointment time and pick it up the day after.
  7. Cancellation Policy: Should you cancel your scheduled appointment with less than 72 hours notice, or not show up for your scheduled appointment, you will be responsible and billed for the full service fee.
